Atomizer, Cartomizer, Clearomizer F.A.Q.
What is an atomizer?
An atomizer or (atty), is the most important part of an e-cig, because it serves as the heating element. When activated by a battery, the atomizer vaporizes the e-liquid that touches it as air is pulled over the coils. Atomizers come in all shapes and sizes they can be threaded in all variations, atomizers can be found inside cartomizers and clearomizers. They are simply coils wrapped together on a positive and negative terminal housed in a tube with airflow, ultimately connected to a battery. Advanced users can also rebuild these in various ways on mechanical devices called RBA (rebuildable atomizer) or RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer), or RTA (rebuildale tank atomizer).
What is a cartomizer?
A cartomizer or (carto), has been the rock in the ecig industry with its ease of use and disposable design. You can see examples of the cartomizer used in cig-alike style ecigs where you typically have a certain amount of puffs before you throw away the "filter" or "cartomizer". Cartomizers are essentially atomizers wrapped and encased in wicking material. Picture the heating element nested away inside thick foam. The point of this design was to slowly vaporize the liquid that is saturated inside the material. Some are meant to be thrown away and others are able to be refilled and used for a period of time. Cartomizers come in all shapes and sizes and threading. Most of the time cartomizer coils are wrapped vertically and pull air through like a chimney.
What is a clearomizer?
A clearomizer or (clearo), is the most popular choice today. Basically a clearomizer is a tank atomizer most times with replaceable coils but sometimes can be disposable as well. Clearomizers often have a coil positioned at the top or bottom with wicks that drop inside a reservoir. They come in all shapes and sizes and threadings and are a preferred choice because of how easy they are to use and how clean the atomizer delivers the vapor. Clearomizers naturally have less wicking material than cartomizers. Most of the time clearomizers coils are wrapped horizontally and allow air to pull over the coil and wick through the center although we are seeing more clearomizer coils come out with a vertical build much like cartomizers.
What is Flooding?
This happens when you have too much liquid on the wick and coil of your atomizer, cartomizer, or clearomizer. This can happen when filling your tank too fast, over dripping onto your wicks, over filling, or possibly sucking too hard. The best way to fix a flooded device in most cases is to empty the tank if there is one of e-liquid, then blow the excess liquid out of the atomizer. Refill slowly and the device should work properly.
